HOBOKEN – 170 picks later, the rosters are set (for now).
Sunday’s draft had a little bit of everything: pizza, unfunny jokes and lots and lots of lost pens. Seriously, what the fuck was going on with everyone losing track of their pen?
Even with a late start (thanks Brad) and many shot clock violations, we managed to get 17 rounds in before Brent’s early bedtime. But was the draft a success? That’s a question I’m not sure I’m qualified to answer.
When I woke up and looked at my roster today, it felt a little bit like waking up after a one-night stand. It’s great to score, but at what cost?
To be fully transparent, I was 80% sure I was going to have to go heavy on wide receivers from my many mocks with Brent. I wanted Cook, but so did Brent. If Cook was there, I was taking him. At the same time, I couldn’t pass up the chance to grab both CeeDee and JJ. I thought I had a plan for the path forward but the reachers came early and often. On top of that, Brent knew EXACTLY who I was eyeing when it came time for me to eventually end my WR streak.
And while I may have learned my lesson about mocking with Brent so often, I still know that there is nothing that can truly prepare you for how the draft is going to go – like Jonathan Taylor going fourth overall.
